Letter to 5th Grade Parents

Dear Parents:
Welcome back to school!
The new academic year will bring with it many new challenges and many new rewards. There will be new teachers to meet, new books to read, new friends to meet, new skills to master — and I hope that you will be able to share in these exciting times.
DMIS provides all school supplies, including some folders . This allows students to organize notes and homework that should be brought back and forth to school daily.  All students work will be kept in a big binders at school. We have labeled all items prominently with your child’s first and last name as well as grade for easy identification.  DMIS also provides each student a T-shirt and a cap which will be worn on field trips.
I encourage you and your child to check our 5th grade blog (www.dmisyun.blogspot.com at least once a week, because there are many listening, reading resources have been uploaded in past three years. You can find updated useful information about reminders, classroom activities and field trip pictures.
Your student should bring a library book home every Monday. Please allow him/her read it 10-15 minutes a day, plus doing assigned Chinese and Math homework. We appreciate you putting the book in his/her backpack on Sunday evenings so that they can get it returned on time.
Our Chinese program will start Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) from K3 through 5th grade in 2013-2014 school year. Teachers have created a list of "Panda" expectations – P = Positive, A = Achievement, N = Nice, D = Discipline and A = Academics. These help to protect each student’s right to safety, learning and respect. Every student will have many chances to earn Panda prizes by behaving well.
A monthly newsletter will be sent to you by email.  If you have any questions or concerns at any time, you always can reach by email at yun.doyle@dmischool.com.
I am looking forward to a great year working with you and all students! Thank you in advance for your concern and support throughout the year!!!
